The great pumpkins and end of the summer garden

Aren't they gorgeous? We managed to get 3 pumpkins from our garden this year. These two and a bitty white one about the size of a cantaloupe. Speaking of cantaloupes, they did not do so well. Neither did my zucchini. You know I feel like a disgrace to gardening if I only get one zucchini all summer long. The crooknecks were so-so. We had these vine plants on the side of our house and the soil was pretty bad. That and the cat decided to use the area as his new latrine. Successes for the summer: tomatoes, cucumbers (remind me to plant them again!) beets and herbs. For some reason the bell peppers did not do well this summer. Maybe because the weather was too cool? And once again, I have not been able to get my act together in time to plant my fall/winter garden in September like my book says. Hopefully we can have some quality dig-in-the-dirt time this weekend and get some cool weather veggies in.

Love the pumpkins!

My cantaloupes were crap this year, too. I tried a bite out of every single one of them...just in case one didn't suck. No luck.
